Excel for the Web Python

Excel for the Web will get the already popular Python support that was introduced a while ago on the standard app. Python in Excel allows for easier function management and greatly improves workflows for those who are familiar with coding.

This week, the new enhancement to the web version of Excel was announced in an entry to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap. According to it, eligible users will be able to add Python formulas directly into their workbooks in Excel for the web.

However, users won’t have to worry about keeping their Python formulas safe, as Microsoft will keep them in a secure container in the cloud.

Here’s what the entry says:

Python in Excel allows you to bring the capabilities of Python directly into the Excel grid. As a part of this feature update, eligible users will now be able to add Python formulas directly into their workbooks in Excel for the web. These Python formulas will be run by Excel in a secure container on the Microsoft Cloud with enterprise-level security as a compliant Microsoft 365 connected experience.

The new support for Python in Excel for the Web will be released in February 2025.
