3. YouTube’s Blur Faces tool

As a matter of fact, YouTube’s Blur Faces tool recently got a series of updates that improved its accuracy and ease of use.

Google’s algorithm automatically detects faces, and displays a list of all the faces found. You can then choose the one that you want to blur. It is worth mentioning that you can blur one, several or all faces in the video.

Here’s how to use the Blur Faces option:

  1. Select the Blurring effects tab > go to Blur faces > select Edit. Wait until YouTube processes your video.
  2. The tool will then display thumbnails for each of the faces that it detected.
  3. Simply click the thumbnail(s) of the faces you want to blur.
  4. Save your changes.

That’s it, the blurring effect should now be visible in your videos.


4. Adobe After Effects

After Effects is one of the best video editing software in the world and you can also use it to blur people’s faces in videos. 

Thanks to the motion tracking feature, you can easily obscure faces, logos and other elements. You can apply a feathered mask to protect a person’s identity and then track that mask as it moves across the frames.

To do that, you need to first insert a Null Object in order to apply effects. Go to Insert, and then select add a Null Object. Open the tracking panel and  select both position and rotation to better track a person’s face.

Now, select your tracking points. Set the newly created Null Object as the target. Go to Layer and add a new Adjustment layer in order to apply the blurring effect.

Go to Effects & Preset and type the word ‘mosaic’. You can drag the mosaic effect over the new adjustment layer. In order to apply the mosaic effect only to people’s face, enable the pen tool and start clicking around the suject’s face to mask it.

5. VSDC Free Video Editor

VSDC is a free video editor that allows you to quickly and easily blur faces or objects in videos. The program offers rich functionality packed on an intuitive interface.
