Firefox Smart Window gets AI agent Tasks to track prices and more

We recently reported that Firefox is testing the ability to monitor price drops and other changes on webpages through Smart Window. Mozilla is now exposing the feature in Firefox Nightly through Monitors, a new toolbar entry point for Smart Window’s Tasks feature.

The Monitors button appears as part of Smart Window, alongside other features such as Organize Tabs for automatic tab grouping. Clicking it opens a Tasks panel where users can see existing tasks, create new ones, or manage their monitors.

The underlying monitoring feature was already working before Mozilla added this toolbar button. Existing tasks can run automatically on a schedule and send desktop notifications when Firefox finds a match.

I was able to receive repeated notifications from a previously created task, with Firefox reporting the current price it found and comparing it with the target set for the task.

The new UI shows how Mozilla expects users to interact with the feature. Clicking “Create new task” opens a form where users can give the task a name and describe exactly what they want Firefox to watch.

Users can then add the webpages that Firefox should monitor, with the current Nightly interface allowing up to five pages per task. Firefox also lets users choose how often to check the pages and set a specific time for the check.

Once configured, Firefox can continue checking the selected pages without requiring users to repeat the request manually. Users can also edit an existing task or trigger it on demand instead of waiting for the next scheduled check.

The timing also comes as Mozilla recently announced a partnership with Mistral to bring Mistral Small 4 to Smart Window. Mozilla says Smart Window users in the US and Canada can use Mistral Small 4 alongside other available AI models, giving the AI-powered browsing experience another model option.

Firefox is testing an agent that can take a user’s instructions, monitor selected webpages on a schedule, evaluate what it finds, and report back when the requested condition is met. The feature is under development in Firefox Nightly, so Mozilla could change the interface and available options before a wider release.
