Firefox Update Fixes YouTube Autoplay Bug and NVIDIA Video Issues

firefox update

Mozilla has released Firefox 148.0.2, a small but important update focused on stability, bug fixes, and security improvements. While recent Firefox updates introduced AI-related features, this release focuses entirely on reliability rather than new functionality.

The update is already rolling out through automatic browser updates and is also available from Mozilla’s official Firefox download page.

Firefox 148.0.2 fixes several browser bugs

Mozilla addressed multiple issues affecting everyday browsing and website compatibility.

One fix resolves a bug where searches entered in the Firefox Home search field were redirected to the address bar. This occurred even for users who had disabled search handoff through advanced settings.

Another fix addresses problems with web-based rich text editors. Some users reported that formatting options such as bold or italic text failed to apply correctly in certain editors.

YouTube autoplay behavior was also corrected in this release. Some videos could start playing automatically even when autoplay was disabled, an issue that particularly affected users relying on screen readers.

Mozilla also fixed a layout issue where absolutely positioned elements intended to appear centered were incorrectly aligned to the left during initial page load.

Another smaller fix resolves a problem where the “Switch to Tab” suggestion appeared blank in the address bar for pages that lacked a title.

Fix for NVIDIA GPU video quality issue on Windows

Firefox 148.0.2 also resolves a video playback problem affecting Windows systems with NVIDIA graphics cards.

Users reported reduced video quality when NVIDIA Video Super Resolution was enabled. Mozilla has corrected this issue so that enhanced video upscaling features work properly during playback.

Mozilla patches three high-risk security vulnerabilities

In addition to bug fixes, the update includes patches for three security vulnerabilities rated as high risk.

The vulnerabilities addressed in Firefox 148.0.2 include:

  • CVE-2026-3845 – Heap buffer overflow in the Audio/Video playback component in Firefox for Android
  • CVE-2026-3846 – Same-origin policy bypass vulnerability related to CSS parsing
  • CVE-2026-3847 – Multiple memory safety issues

Memory safety bugs are especially concerning because attackers sometimes exploit them to execute malicious code.

Due to these security fixes, Mozilla strongly recommends that users update to Firefox 148.0.2 as soon as possible.

Firefox continues expanding AI features

Although Firefox 148.0.2 does not introduce new features, Mozilla has recently been experimenting with artificial intelligence integrations.

Earlier updates introduced an AI workspace inside the browser, while another update added a setting allowing users to disable AI tools if they prefer a traditional browsing experience.

Meanwhile, early signs of more advanced AI functionality have appeared in Firefox Nightly builds. Reports suggest that real assistant-style models and support for running local large language models could be coming to the browser in the future.
