It seems that our issues with modern apps like Skype for Windows 10 have not been entirely fixed. This tutorial will show you what steps you need to take in order to open your Skype application in Windows 10.

If you are unable to open your Skype application, then it might be from a third party application that you recently installed and it is causing several other issues with your Skype program or your antivirus is blocking you from using the applications in Windows 10.

How can I fix Skype not opening in Windows 10:

  1. Rename Skype Folder in Safe Boot mode
  2. Reinstall Skype
  3. Disable uPnP
  4. Perform an SFC Scan

In most cases, renaming the Skype folder and uninstalling recently installed software should fix this problem.

1. Rename Skype Folder in Safe Boot mode

  1. Press and hold the “Windows” button and the “R” button.
  2. Write in the “Run” window the following “msconfig.exe”.msconfig run dialog run as administrator not working
  3. Press the “Enter” button on the keyboard.
  4. Left click or tap on the “Boot” tab situated in the upper side of the window.
  5. Check the box next to “Safe boot”.
  6. Check the box next to “Network”.
  7. Reboot the Windows 10 device.
  8. After the restart of the operating system try to open your Skype application and see if it runs correctly.
  9. Open the Run window as you did above while in safe mode.
  10. Write in the window the following “%appdata%” without the quotes.appdate unable to save word document
  11. Press the “Enter” button on the keyboard.
  12. Locate the folder with the name “Skype” in the window that pops up.
  13. Rename the folder to “Skype_2”.
  14. Now close the file explorer and start the Skype app again.
  15. See if you still have this issue.
  16. If you don’t have this issue then start your device normally and try to run Skype again.

2. Reinstall Skype

  1. Uninstall your Skype application.
  2. Go on Microsoft store and download the latest version of the Skype app compatible with your Windows 10 device.
  3. If you still have the same issue then you need to do the first tutorial for this version as well.

3. Disable uPnP

  1. Run the first tutorial to enter the Safe Mode feature in Windows 10.
  2. Open your Skype program.
  3. Open the Skype advanced connections settings feature.
  4. Disable the feature “uPnP”.
  5. Reboot the Skype program as well as your operating system.
  6. Open the Skype app after the reboot is done and see if it opens.

4. Perform an SFC Scan

Seeing that there is a possibility that your system might be damaged you will need to perform an sfc scan as well.

  1. Move the mouse over to the upper right side of the screen.
  2. Left click or tap on the Search feature.
  3. Type in the search feature “command prompt”.
  4. After the search is finished you need to right click on the command prompt icon and left click on “Run as administrator”.
  5. In the command prompt window write the following: “sfc /scannow” without the quotes.Sfc scannow
  6. Press the “Enter” button on the keyboard.
  7. Left the sfc scan finish and reboot the Windows 10 device.
  8. Start the Skype program again and see how it reacts now.
