1. Use the slmgr.vbs command

  1. On the start screen of the Windows 10 PC, left-click on the Desktop icon you have on that menu.
  2. When you opened the desktop you will need to left-click on the start button and left-click on the icon Command Prompt but be sure to open the one with administrative rights.
    Note: To open a command prompt with administrative rights you need to right-click on the Command Prompt icon and left-click on Run as administrator.
  3. If prompted by a message left click on the Yes button to proceed further.
  4. In the Command Prompt window you will need to write the following command slmgr.vbs –ipk YYYYY- YYYYY – YYYYY – YYYYY – YYYYY
    Note: Replace the Y letters in the code with your product key number. And also the product key should have 25 numbers.
  5. Press the Enter button on the keyboard.
  6. Write again in the command prompt window the following command: slmgr.vbs –ato.
  7. Press the Enter button on the keyboard.
  8. Reboot the computer and see if your device gives you the same error.

2. Use the Slui 3 command

  1. While on your start screen you need to press and hold the button Windows and the button R.
  2. A Run window should open and you need to write in there Slui 3.
  3. Press the Enter button on the keyboard.
  4. Write in the next window that appears your operating system product key.
  5. Left-click or tap on the Activate button.
  6. Reboot the Windows 10 device.
  7. Check and see if you still have this issue.

3. Run SFC scan

  1. Open the Command Prompt window as you did in the first method and with administrative rights.
  2. Left-click on the yes button if you are prompted by a window.
  3. Type in the Command Prompt window the following command: sfc /scannowSFC scan
  4. Let the SFC scan run and when it is finished reboot the computer.
  5. Check and see if you still have that message.

4. Run the Update and Activation Troubleshooters

Since this error code usually occurs shortly after you installed the latest updates on your computer, running the Update Troubleshooter may also help you fix it.

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshooter > select Windows Update and run the troubleshooter.

If the error persists, run the Windows 10 Activation Troubleshooter as well. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation > Troubleshooter.

Wait until the tool completes the troubleshooting process, restart your computer and check if the error code 0xc004f074 persists.

5. Contact Microsoft Support

Try calling Microsoft support team and tell them what is the error you are getting and ask them to change your product key. In some cases when you try to use the product key too many times, it will get blocked by the server.
