Framework Desktop Gets 192GB Memory With Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495
Framework has previewed a new Framework Desktop configuration featuring the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 and 192GB of unified memory.
The company demonstrated the system during AMD’s Advancing AI event and described it as the first 192GB computer based on this processor.
Framework Desktop Gets 192GB of Unified Memory
The new configuration increases the Framework Desktop’s unified memory capacity from 128GB to 192GB.
Framework expects the additional memory to target local AI workloads that require large model files and extended context windows. However, the company has not announced pricing or availability.
The 192GB model will likely cost significantly more than the existing 128GB configuration because of rising LPDDR5X memory prices.
AMD Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 Specifications
The Framework Desktop uses AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 processor, which includes:
- 16 Zen 5 CPU cores
- Boost speeds of up to 5.2GHz
- 40 RDNA 3.5 Compute Units
- Radeon 8065S integrated graphics
- An NPU delivering up to 55 TOPS
The processor uses unified memory shared between the CPU and integrated GPU, allowing large AI models to access more memory without requiring a dedicated graphics card.
Framework Runs DeepSeek-V4-Flash Locally
Framework says the 192GB Desktop can run DeepSeek-V4-Flash at Q8 quantization.
DeepSeek-V4-Flash reportedly contains 284 billion total parameters, with 13 billion parameters active during processing. A Q8 GGUF version requires approximately 162GB of memory.
That leaves around 30GB available for the operating system, applications and a longer AI context window.
PCIe Slot Now Supports Longer Expansion Cards
Framework has also changed the Desktop’s PCIe x4 slot to an open-ended design.
Users can now install longer PCIe cards directly into the system. However, installed cards will still operate through four PCIe lanes, regardless of their physical size.
The change should make the compact system compatible with a wider range of networking, storage and accelerator cards.
Linux Prebuilt Configuration Planned
Framework is preparing a prebuilt Desktop configuration that will ship with Linux installed.
The company has not revealed which Linux distribution it plans to use or whether customers will receive multiple operating system options.
Two Systems Combine 384GB for AI Workloads
Framework also demonstrated two 192GB Desktop systems connected through 50GbE network adapters.
The setup uses Remote Direct Memory Access over Ethernet and tensor parallelism, allowing AI workloads to use a combined 384GB of unified memory across both systems.
This configuration could support models that cannot fit into the memory of a single Framework Desktop.
Pricing and Availability Remain Unconfirmed
Framework has not announced when the 192GB Desktop will become available or how much it will cost.
GMKtec is also preparing a system featuring the Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 and 192GB of memory, with a launch expected later this year.
The announcement comes as Microsoft expands its Azure AI infrastructure with AMD Helios. DeepSeek is also reportedly developing an AI chip to reduce its reliance on NVIDIA, while Microsoft could consider DeepSeek V4 to lower Copilot Cowork operating costs.
