Framework Increases DDR5 Prices, Updates Laptop and Desktop Configuration Costs Too

DDR5 RAM

Yesterday, a TrendForce report hinted that laptop prices may go up by 40 percent if the DDR5 RAM and CPU pricing maintains its upward trend in 2026. Now, Framework has shared another monthly update on component pricing, and the latest one suggests memory and storage costs are still moving upward.

For those unaware, Framework is a U.S.-based consumer electronics company focused on creating highly modular, repairable, and upgradeable laptops. In a March 9 update, the company confirmed it has adjusted pricing on several parts and configurations after running through older, lower-cost inventory.

According to Framework, pricing on DDR5 SO-DIMMs has increased to around $13 to $18 per GB, depending on the capacity (via Videocardz). The company says the change is related to the higher supplier costs as well as the reduction of earlier inventory that had been purchased at lower prices.

Framework notes that it uses a Weighted Average Cost model when calculating prices. As a result, once cheaper stock is sold through, newer orders purchased at higher costs start to affect pricing.

The situation around SDDs is the same. Framework says it has started running out of lower-cost storage inventory and has adjusted pricing on certain capacities to reflect the current market rates. However, some models, such as 2TB, 4TB, and 8TB SN850X drives, are still being sold below the current market prices as the company is clearing remaining stock.

Notably, the pricing change extends beyond the internal components. Framework has further confirmed that it has also updated prices for the Framework Desktop and some pre-built Framework Laptop 16 configurations. The company has also hinted that similar price adjustments may be done in the coming months for the remaining Framework Laptop 13, Laptop 16, and Laptop 12 pre-built systems.

The company says rising LPDDR5x memory costs contributed to the desktop adjustments. Meanwhile, some Laptop 16 configurations were repriced after the company sold through earlier inventory that included lower-cost memory and storage components.
