Gemini in Chrome is now available to some users in India
The feature is live on Chrome Beta for some users, while Stable still does not offer access.
Google is rolling out “Gemini in Chrome” to select users in India. The feature is active in the Beta channel, while the Stable version still does not offer access.
Until now, Google had made Gemini in Chrome available first to users in the United States. Access was blocked in other regions, including India. Access has now started opening for some users in India, beginning with the Chrome Beta channel.
Google recently made AI Mode in Search available in India as well.
Until recently, the Gemini panel opened with a message saying the feature was not available in this region. That block is now gone for me.
Gemini works fully in Chrome Beta
Once enabled, Gemini works directly inside the browser. It can summarize the current tab, answer questions about open pages, and open from the toolbar button. It also supports keyboard shortcuts such as Alt + G and includes Gemini Live with microphone access.
This confirms that the feature is genuinely active, not just visually exposed.

The Gemini button and panel are not available by default in Stable, even when signed into the same Google account. Access currently stays limited to the Beta channel for affected users.

Chrome Beta also includes a dedicated settings page under AI innovations for “Gemini in Chrome”.
Users can see options for:
- Sidebar behavior
- Keyboard shortcuts
- System tray access
- Gemini Live captions

Some controls related to browsing on the user’s behalf are locked and labeled as managed, even on personal devices. Chrome policy checks confirm that no enterprise management is active, which suggests these limits are being enforced by Google during the rollout.
Not every user in India has access yet.
