Google Meet and Microsoft Teams finally take a step toward true interoperability
Google is quietly removing one of the most annoying barriers in enterprise video meetings. Starting this month, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams will finally work together, without relying on third-party workarounds.
Here’s how Google Meet and Microsoft Teams now connect
The new interoperability feature allows Chrome OS–based Google Meet hardware to join Microsoft Teams meetings directly. At the same time, Windows-based Microsoft Teams Rooms devices can now join Google Meet calls. For organizations juggling both platforms, this is a meaningful shift.
Until now, mixed environments often required additional services or complex setups. Google says this update is designed to simplify cross-platform collaboration, especially for enterprises with standardized meeting room hardware.
There are a few limitations to note, though. The feature currently supports only Chrome OS–based Google Meet Rooms and Windows-based Microsoft Teams Rooms. Other device types are not included at launch. Google also clarified that existing Pexip configurations will remain unchanged for organizations already using them.
From an admin perspective, the feature is enabled by default. IT teams can disable it at the organizational unit level if needed. Setup guidance for joining Google Meet from Microsoft Teams Rooms is handled through Microsoft’s admin documentation, while Google provides instructions for joining Teams meetings from Meet hardware.
Availability and rollout timeline
The rollout is already underway. Admin console visibility began on February 3, 2026, for both Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains. End users will start seeing the feature from February 16, with a gradual rollout that may take up to 15 days. Moreover, the update is available to all Google Workspace customers using Google Meet hardware. For hybrid workplaces and cross-company calls, this decision finally brings a bit of sanity back to conference rooms.
