Google has introduced major changes across its Gemini ecosystem, including the launch of Gemini 3.5 Flash.

The biggest controversy came from the newly introduced Gemini rate limits. Google recently added both weekly and 5-hour usage caps for Gemini users. Once users exceed those quotas, they must either wait for the limits to reset or subscribe to a higher paid plan.

Users quickly hit Gemini limits

Many users quickly pushed back against the changes after reporting they hit limits far sooner than expected. Some developers claimed they exhausted their quota after sending only three prompts, sparking criticism across social media and developer communities.

The complaints raised concerns that the new restrictions could disrupt development workflows and make Gemini less practical for heavy users.

Google responds after backlash

Google acknowledged the backlash soon after reports started spreading online. Varun Mohan responded publicly, confirming that the company would increase the rate limits significantly.

According to Mohan, Google will now triple the Gemini rate limits across all paid tiers in Antigravity. The company is also resetting every user’s weekly Gemini quota to immediately ease frustrations.

The response suggests Google recognized the original limits were too restrictive for many developers and power users.

Developers may benefit from the change

For developers using Gemini heavily inside workflows, strict prompt caps created concerns about reliability and interrupted productivity. Resetting quotas and increasing limits should reduce some of that friction.

The quick response may also reassure users that Google is paying attention to developer feedback while expanding its AI ecosystem.

More Gemini features arrive

The controversy comes during a broader expansion of Gemini services and tools.

Google recently introduced improved AI verification tools designed to help users validate AI-generated content more effectively.

The company also unveiled Gemini Omni Flash, a new model focused on video generation capabilities. In addition, Google continues rolling out various improvements for the Gemini app itself.
