Helldivers 2 Machinery of Oppression Update Adds City Warfare And Global Community Stakes

helldivers 2 update

Helldivers 2 had a strong launch, with reports suggesting sales momentum peaked early, even before Sony fully took the reins. Since then, the publisher has worked to reignite interest, and today’s new update aims to do exactly that with a large-scale community-driven event.

According to the PlayStation Blog, Helldivers 2 has received a major update titled Machinery of Oppression, and it is available now on all supported platforms.

New Helldivers 2 update takes you to the streets of Cyberstan

The update introduces a brand-new playable environment set on Cyberstan, featuring massive urban and industrial factory cities. Missions now unfold across dense city maps packed with hazards, tighter combat corridors, and vertical layouts that demand smarter positioning and squad coordination.

Players also gain access to a new community-driven objective system. Instead of following a fixed path, the global player base decides which cities to target and dismantle. Progress depends on physically destroying buildings and factories piece by piece, with primary objectives focused on shutting down enemy production facilities. Optional objectives include leveling large factory complexes and eliminating key landmarks.

New enemies and global consequences

Three new enemy types expand the battlefield. Agitators function as commanders who adapt enemy tactics in real time. Cyborg Radicals push aggressive melee pressure, while the Vox Engine arrives as a mobile boss unit armed with multiple heavy weapons.

A new Galactic Reinforcement Counter raises the stakes further. Every player’s death reduces a shared global pool, and if it hits zero, the entire event fails. This system shifts the meta toward survival, defensive play, and minimizing losses.

The update also introduces the Siege Breakers Warbond with defensive-focused gear, including the new G/SH-39 Shield, alongside the War Horses armor set in the Superstore.

In other gaming news, Expedition 2 is on the way for ARC Raiders, but players can jump into the Shared Watch event starting today.
