Squanch Games’ colorful and comedic first-person shooter High on Life released on December 12th for Xbox One and Series X|S consoles as well as on Windows. It was also a day one Game Pass release. Since that time High on Life has gone on to become the biggest Game Pass launch for 2022 in terms of the number of hours played in the first five days of release.

Not only that, but High on Life is now the biggest single-player game launch ever on Game Pass, as well as the biggest launch for a third-party game in the history of the service.

As you might imagine, the developers of High on Life are riding pretty high themselves right now over the game’s success, as are all those involved with bringing the game to Game Pass. General Manager of Content Planning at Xbox Matt Percy had this to say,

High On Life is an incredibly unique title that we’ve been excited about for a long time. It’s fantastic to see so many Game Pass members jump into it at launch to experience Squanch’s story for themselves ahead of the holidays.

High on Life follows the story of a human bounty hunter who teams up with talking, sentient weapons called “Gatlians” to take on an alien drug cartel called G3, with the drugs being humans. The game incorporates adventure and metroidvania elements into its shooting. The game was co-developed by Justin Roiland of Rick and Morty fame.
