Intel’s Core G3 Panther Lake Handheld Chips Could Launch in Q2 2026, Missing Earlier Expectations

If you caught up with Intel’s announcement at CES 2026, you probably know that the company has already confirmed that dedicated Panther Lake SoCs for gaming handhelds are coming in 2026. What remains unclear is how early in the year those chips will realistically ship with the gaming handhelds.

Now, we may have details on that, thanks to popular leaker “Golden Pig Upgrade,” who suggested Intel’s Panther Lake handheld chips may launch at the end of Q1 2026, rather than the earlier late-Q1 window (via Videocardz). That being said, nothing has come from Intel in this matter as of now.

Panther Lake is Intel’s first serious attempt to challenge AMD’s growing dominance in the gaming handheld space. AMD’s Zen 5-based chips currently power most high-end handhelds, setting a high bar for efficiency and sustained gaming performance.

Let’s not forget that rumors point to two Panther Lake handheld chips, one with a 16-core CPU and 12 Xe3 GPU cores, another with 10 Xe3 units, though Intel hasn’t confirmed any specs yet.

Although the Panther Lake chip is ready in the first half of 2026, adoption will depend heavily on device makers. Designing, validating, and shipping a new handheld platform typically adds months beyond chip availability. Manufacturers like MSI have historically been quick to adopt Intel silicon in its Claw handheld lineup and are expected to lead any Panther Lake rollout. All that said, the custom Panther Lake SoC for gaming handhelds remains on track for 2026.
