KB5046745

Microsoft is all set to roll out a new update, Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.4445 (KB5046745), to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel. With it, the Redmond-based tech giant will add even more options to the File Explorer context menu.

Microsoft adds a “New Folder” option when right-clicking locations in the File Explorer navigation pane, allowing users to create new folders and files easily. This comes days after the tech giant added even more options to this menu, angering many users who think it is unnecessary.

With KB5046745, the Redmond-based tech giant has also fixed several issues impacting Explorer.exe reliability in the latest Windows 11 builds, including a problem causing Explorer.exe to crash when right-clicking apps in the taskbar.

For left-aligned taskbar users with multiple monitors, Microsoft has fixed an issue where the widget text in the taskbar might overlap with the date and time.

There are a bunch of additional bug fixes, too, including a fix for an issue where the date and time properties of files were unexpectedly updated in some cases after copying them, a fix for an issue where the Details Pane icons in File Explorer weren’t responding correctly to theme changes, and a fix for a black flash in File Explorer that appeared when duplicating a tab.

Microsoft says that Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel will receive updates based on Windows 11, version 23H2, via an enablement package. Microsoft explains that many features in the Beta Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology, starting with a subset of Insiders and then being pushed to everyone in the channel over time.

The Beta Channel builds, and updates are introduced in two phases: Some features, improvements, and fixes are gradually rolled out to a subset of Insiders who have opted to receive the latest updates early, and then these features, improvements, and fixes are rolled out to everyone in the Beta Channel.

As always, you can grab KB5046745 from Windows Update in the Settings app if enrolled in the Windows Insider Program. And if you’re looking to try out new Windows 11 features as soon as possible, you can flip the switch to turn on the ability to receive updates as soon as they’re available.
