The latest Builds, 26100.7918 and 26200.7918 (KB5077241), for Insiders in the Release Preview Channel of Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 not only bring Emoji 16.0, it also tries to make daily workflow better; thanks to Taskbar-related upgrades and more. Not to forget, after installing this update, you’ll also be able to use .webp images as desktop background. But, that’s not all; there are a bunch of changes included in this update. Keep reading!
Taskbar, System Tray, and Connectivity Updates
As part of the KB5077241 Release Preview update, you’ll find a built-in network speed test directly on the taskbar. You can simply open it from the Wi-Fi or Cellular Quick Settings, or by right-clicking the network icon in the system tray. The test launches in the default, Bing browser, allowing you to check Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Cellular speeds.
For those using an uncombined taskbar, apps with multiple windows now behave smarter in overflow. Only windows without space move to the overflow area, preventing the cluttered, empty look that previously appeared.
Enhanced Accounts, Identity, and Camera Control
Moving on, the lateat update brings a new entry in the account menu on the Start menu, which directs users to the Microsoft account benefits page. In addition to that, Windows now supports Microsoft Entra ID group and role SID resolution, which translates cloud-only security identifiers into readable names for file permissions, local group membership, and access control.
Notably, you won’t require on-premises Active Directory. Not to forget, camera owners also get pan and tilt controls for supported devices, accessible via Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Cameras.
Security, Widgets, and Personalization
Windows now brings Sysmon functionality natively, which allows system event monitoring for threat detection. It must be explicitly enabled via Settings or PowerShell, and users who installed Sysmon manually must uninstall it first. Widgets now open in a full-page experience, while desktop backgrounds can use .webp images, expanding personalization options. There are some small changes that are worth discussing too. Check them below:
- [Search] Improved: Updated icon for the search process in Task Manager to now show a magnifying glass.
- [Storage Settings]
- Improved: Updated some of the dialogs in Storage Settings to have a more modern design.
- Improved Performance of scanning for temporary files.
- [Windows Update Settings] Improves the responsiveness of the settings page.
- [Login and lock screens] Improves the login screen reliability.
- [Nearby Sharing] Improves the reliability of sending larger files.
- [Projecting] Improves the reliability of displaying the project pane after pressing the Windows key plus P.
- [Printing] Improves the Windows print service (spoolsv.exe) to ensure smoother performance and prevent slowdowns during high‑volume printing.
All that said, the latest preview builds brings bunch of changes for Insiders. You should get this update via the Windows Update or Microsoft Update Catalog.
