Latest Canary Update Brings New Emojis, Camera Features and Better Settings
Microsoft just released Windows 11 Canary Build 29550.1000 for testing. Let’s break it down. This release focuses on practical hardware controls and system consistency rather than massive interface changes. It also brings the operating system up to speed with the latest emoji standards. What this really means is you will spend less time hunting for device-specific software and fighting with conflicting power profiles.
New emoji 16.0 rollout
The update integrates the Emoji 16.0 release into the standard Windows emoji panel. Microsoft added exactly one new emoji for each major category, giving you a few new visual options without cluttering the interface.
Camera pan and tilt controls
Here’s the thing about webcam adjustments. You usually need to download separate software from the manufacturer just to change your viewing angle. Windows 11 now lets you control pan and tilt directly within the native Settings app. If your camera supports it, these new sliders live under the basic settings in the Bluetooth and devices menu.
Global power settings persistence
Power management is getting completely streamlined. When you change your global power settings like sleep timeouts, hibernate schedules, or lid close actions, those rules now apply across all active power plans. Your specific screen timeout choice will finally stick regardless of whether your laptop is running in a high-performance or battery-saver mode.
Voice typing feature for File Explorer
Microsoft also slipped in a helpful desktop update for dictation. You can now use voice typing to rename files directly in File Explorer. Just select a file and press the Windows key plus H to speak the new name.
Other broader insider improvements
These adjustments sit alongside a string of other practical additions across the Insider channels. Another Canary update recently introduced a built-in network speed test and helpful pen settings refinements. Microsoft is steadily cleaning up core utilities across the board.
Over in the Beta and Dev channels, parallel updates are delivering an improved Windows setup experience and an updated driver policy, while also streamlining Microsoft 365 account settings right from your dashboard.
