Lenovo Reportedly Has a SteamOS Legion Go 2 in the Pipeline; Likely to Be Showcased at CES 2026
The specs are reportedly mostly same
Earlier this month, reports surfaced that Lenovo is developing its new Legion Pro Rollable gaming laptop, which may be showcased at CES 2026. Fast forward to today, folks at Windows Latest have reported that the company is working on a SteamOS version of the Legion Go Gen 2. As with the new Rollable gaming laptop, this one will also be announced at the CES event due in January 2026.
If the report is accurate, this might be the boldest move by the company and the clearest sign that the company is ready to move away from Windows 11 for portable gaming. As you may know, the Legion Go Gen 2 is already a flagship handheld lineup, but the complaint is coming back, especially with unoptimized Windows 11.
Back in September, Microsoft promised that it would join the Xbox Full-Screen Experience in 2026. But it seems Lenovo isn’t willing to wait long. Per the news outlet, the SteamOS version reportedly keeps the same AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip, up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory, up to 2TB of PCIe storage, and the 144Hz PureSight OLED panel. So, yes, nothing changes on the hardware side; it’s entirely software-related.
There’s no word on the pricing for the SteamOS model yet, but given the price tag of $1049 for the Windows 11 model, you can expect the price tag to be somewhere close. If Lenovo’s most powerful handheld performs better once Windows is removed, it sends a clear message. Promises alone won’t keep Windows relevant in portable gaming. Microsoft needs to act fast before other OEMs turn their head away.
