What to do if MacBook won’t connect to a projector

1. Check the cables and adapters

3. Reset NVRAM and SMC

  2. Press and hold the following buttons: Option, Command, P, and R.
  3. Hold the keys press for about 20 seconds. Your MacBook will look like it’s restarting.
  4. After you hear the startup sound for the second time, release the keys. If you have a model with a T2 chip, release the keys when the Apple logo appears and disappears for the second time.

To reset SMC on models with the T2 chip, do the following:

  1. Turn off your Mac.
  2. Now press and hold left Control, left Option (Alt), right Shift.
  3. Keep the keys pressed for 7 seconds. After 7 seconds have passed, press and hold the Power button alongside these three keys.
  4. Keep all four keys pressed for 7 seconds and then release them.
  5. Wait for a few seconds, now press the Power button to start your MacBook.

On models with no T2 chip, can reset SMC by following these steps:

  1. Shut down your MacBook.
  2. Hold left Shift, left Control, left Option (Alt).
  3. While holding these three keys, press and hold the Power button as well.
  4. Keep all four keys pressed for 10 seconds.
  5. After 10 seconds, release the keys and press the Power button to turn on your Mac.
