Marathon Will Release in March 2026 on Xbox, PS5, and Steam for $39.99
Upon purchase, you'll get full access to the game and a roadmap of free gameplay update
Today, Bungie shared a new look at Marathon, and it includes offering new gameplay footage, developer insights, and a clearer picture of what players can expect ahead of launch.
The studio also confirmed that the sci-fi extraction shooter will release in March 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam for $39.99 / €39.99 / £34.99. The update comes after months of closed alpha playtests, which Bungie says played a major role in shaping the game’s direction.
Developers say that community feedback has directly influenced core systems, pacing, and the overall feel of Marathon’s dark, grounded sci-fi world. Alongside the release window, Bungie also explained its post-launch philosophy.
When you buy Marathon, you get full access to the game and a roadmap of free gameplay updates. This includes new maps, Runner shells, events, and seasonal content.
Season 1 will kick things off with exploration inside the UESC Marathon’s Cryo Archive, an end-game zone designed to push experienced players. Do note that Rewards Passes will not expire, and continue to allow players to purchase and complete older passes at their own speed. The studio also mentions that competitive integrity is a priority, stating that survival will never depend on how much money a player spends.
The newly released ViDoc highlights several additions since the alpha, including proximity chat, solo queue, and a new Runner shell called Rook, designed for scavenging matches already in progress.
Moving on, Marathon will feature four zones at launch, three surface maps, and the Cryo Archive end-game area. You are also in for extensive loot, weapon mods, faction progression, and narrative tracking through a Codex system. Moreover, Bungie says more gameplay reveals and community updates are coming as launch approaches.
