Microsoft and Broadcom have agreed to collaborate, a development that will likely thrill IT departments and those enthusiastic about the cloud.

This collaboration allows VMware Cloud Foundation users even more flexibility by making licenses portable between on-premises data centers and Microsoft Azure VMware Solution. Customers can shift their workloads into the cloud without buying new licenses. Pretty cool, right?

The news comes days after Broadcom announced in a blog post published last month that VMware Workstation Pro and Fusion Pro are free for personal use.

For those who may not know, VMware Cloud Foundation is similar to a Swiss Army knife for cloud infrastructure. It provides an all-inclusive range of software-defined services in computing, storage, networking, security, and cloud management.

And Azure VMware Solution? This is Microsoft’s fully managed service that allows you to run VMware directly on Azure. So, merging these two is essentially the expression of “having your cake and eating it too,” combining the advantages of each side.

But why is this important? It allows businesses to adjust without being tied down by one deployment type. If you’ve ever had to manage licenses and think about following rules while shifting applications onto the cloud, you understand the headache involved.

This collaboration intends to do exactly that, alleviate this pain and facilitate the transition of workloads into Azure without the need for a complete VMware environment shift.

Additionally, the positive news is that Microsoft has also introduced license portability. They have set up the VMware Rapid Migration Plan to assist you in moving to the cloud with greater ease and at a lower cost.

In addition to the new VMware license portability benefit, the VMware Rapid Migration Plan provides an additional and comprehensive set of licensing benefits and programs to reduce the cost and time it takes for organizations to migrate to Azure VMware Solution.

It offers Price protection, Windows Server and SQL Server savings, migration support, and Azure credits. It’s like a bundle that will improve your experience with Azure VMware Solution without hassle.

Now, you may be asking, “When can I begin?” VMware Cloud Foundation license portability to Azure VMware Solution is expected to be ready for use later this year, so now is the ideal time to initiate your migration plan.

If you need to expand your existing VMware setup on-premises into the cloud or want help updating and transforming your IT infrastructure, this collaboration provides all these solutions.

The future for cloud migration seems more promising now with this partnership between Microsoft and Broadcom.
