Microsoft and Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Team Up Ahead of Formula 1’s 2026 Tech Shift
Microsoft and the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team announced a multiyear partnership that brings Microsoft’s technologies deeper into the team’s day-to-day operations.
The collaboration focuses on improving efficiency, innovation, and on-track performance, from factory simulations to race-weekend strategy. Both companies also aim to connect more closely with over 800 million fans of Formula 1 worldwide.
Built for the 2026 Formula 1 regulations
Formula 1’s 2026 regulations will introduce higher levels of electrification, improved efficiency, and stronger sustainability requirements. Microsoft’s cloud and enterprise AI tools will support Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS as it prepares for these changes, helping teams adapt faster to new technical and operational demands.
A single Formula 1 car produces more than 1.1 million data points per second through onboard sensors. Using Microsoft’s cloud and AI stack, including Microsoft Azure, the team plans to analyze this data in real time. Faster processing enables quicker decisions, sharper strategies, and more consistent performance gains.
Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS already uses Microsoft 365 and GitHub to support engineering workflows. The partnership expands these tools across more areas of the organization, increasing agility, collaboration, and innovation speed.
This Formula 1 partnership builds on years of collaboration between Microsoft and Mercedes-Benz in automotive technology. The new agreement extends that relationship into motorsport, highlighting how cloud computing and AI can influence performance at the highest level of racing.
