After the upcoming changes for Microsoft Teams, the company also plans to add improvements to Excel in the form of better Copilot integrations, so let’s see what we can expect to see.

Agent Mode and New COPILOT Function Coming Next Year

As we know, Copilot is heavily integrated into the majority of Office applications. We also know that Microsoft is bringing Copilot for meetings to classic Outlook, but it seems that Excel is getting enhanced as well, with new tools designed to simplify complex workflows and data-related tasks.

Agent Mode is coming to Copilot in Excel, and this feature will be available on both Windows and Mac. Using it, users will be able to build and edit workbooks with Copilot more efficiently, especially when working with large datasets or complex spreadsheets.

Users will be able to choose between OpenAI and Anthropic models, as long as they have an eligible license. It’s also worth mentioning that this feature is coming to Excel for GCC, and according to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, it will start rolling out in January 2026.

Another new feature is the =COPILOT function, which you’ll be able to use directly in your formulas in Excel to generate, classify, or summarize data. This could be particularly useful for users who regularly work with reports, analytics, or large amounts of structured information. Unfortunately, not much information is available about this feature yet, but it should start rolling out in February 2026.

Agent Mode for Excel seems like a great addition, and we can’t wait to see how it works in action. What about you? Are you excited about these upcoming features?
