Microsoft Confirms Teams macOS Bug Triggering Endless Location Permission Popups

Temporary workaround available until Microsoft and Apple release a permanent fix

Microsoft has confirmed a new bug affecting Microsoft Teams on macOS that causes repeated location permission prompts to appear, even after users deny access multiple times. The issue appears connected to a recent macOS security update and is currently tracked under advisory ID TM1315837.

Teams on Mac keeps asking for location access

Affected users report that Teams repeatedly asks for permission to access location services for GPS, Wi-Fi, and nearby network features. Some users say the issue started appearing around May 14, 2026, while the first reports surfaced earlier on May 11.

In many cases, clicking “Don’t Allow” does not stop the popup. The permission dialog immediately returns after dismissal, making Teams frustrating to use on some Mac systems.

Microsoft says the problem only affects certain Mac users who previously enabled location access inside Teams settings.

Microsoft blames a recent macOS security update

According to Microsoft, a recent macOS security change appears to prevent the operating system from correctly saving users’ location permission choices for Teams.

Because macOS fails to retain the selected preference properly, Teams continues requesting the same permission again and again. Microsoft says it is now working with Apple to better understand the behavior introduced by the macOS update while also investigating a possible Teams-side fix.

The company labeled the incident as an advisory rather than a major outage, suggesting the overall impact remains limited.

Microsoft shares a temporary workaround

Microsoft says affected users can try manually resetting location permissions inside macOS settings. The workaround involves opening System Settings, navigating to Privacy & Security and Location Services, then toggling location access for Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Teams ModuleHost off and back on before returning the settings to the preferred state.

The company says this may temporarily stop the repeated permission prompts on some affected devices.

Teams continues facing multiple recent problems

The macOS permission issue arrives during a busy period for Microsoft Teams users. Microsoft recently confirmed it is removing Together Mode from Teams and also explained why Teams meeting recordings sometimes disappear unexpectedly.

In separate security news, attackers have also started abusing Teams chats to distribute ModeloRAT malware. While the latest macOS issue does not appear security-related, repeated permission popups may make Teams difficult to use until Microsoft and Apple release a permanent fix.
