Microsoft Copilot Automatically Installed on LG TVs with No Uninstall Option, Users Outraged
Microsoft’s Copilot AI chatbot has already made millions of Windows 11 users upset, but it seems the chatter isn’t just confined to PCs. Now, the Copilot appears to be making its way to TVs.
Over the weekend, a Reddit user, u/defjam16, spotted that their LG TV running webOS received an update and has installed Microsoft’s Copilot AI app (via VideoCardz). While the announcement was made officially to bring in Copilot powers to LG TVs in mid-2025, it seems the app is slowly making its way. However, the issue the user points out is that there’s no option to uninstall it.

While you can ignore it, the presence of the app suggests how Microsoft is quietly pushing AI into everyday devices, now in your living rooms, too. Given that LG’s webOS is Linux-based, this could also hint at a wider plan to bring Copilot to Linux devices more widely.
Linux now claims roughly 3% to 4% of the PC market, and Microsoft might be lying around silently. Other TV operating systems could follow a similar path down the line, putting more devices at risk of mandatory AI integration.
The Reddit users also point to LG’s “Live Plus” feature. Redditors have noted that when this setting is active, the TV can recognize what’s on screen and use that information to personalize recommendations and ads. LG markets this as an “enhanced viewing experience,” but the difference between the spotted Copilot app and this option is that the latter can be turned off. You can simply go to Settings > All Settings > General > Additional Settings. As always, the naming of options might vary depending on what model you have.
Behind the scenes, Live Plus likely uses AI to sort and analyze user viewing habits. There’s no word on this matter from Microsoft yet, but it seems AI, and especially Microsoft’s AI, is starting to silently creep into hardware by default.
What do you think about this move by Microsoft? We’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Drop your comments below.
