Microsoft will end OneDrive Sync support on Windows 10 version 22H1 and earlier on August 15, 2026. The change affects users who continue running older Windows 10 releases.

The company announced the support deadline through the Microsoft 365 Message Center advisory MC1426708.

OneDrive Sync continued receiving new features, security updates, and bug fixes on these systems even after Windows 10 version 22H1 reached the end of support in December 2022. Microsoft will now bring that extended support period to an end.

OneDrive Sync Will Continue Working for Now

The OneDrive Sync client will not immediately stop working on affected Windows 10 versions after August 15.

However, Microsoft will no longer release new features, bug fixes, or security updates for the software on unsupported systems. The company will also stop providing technical support for issues that appear after the deadline.

Microsoft will not guarantee that OneDrive Sync continues to function correctly on these older Windows versions. Future service changes could introduce reliability, compatibility, or security problems.

Customers who continue using the client will do so at their own risk.

Microsoft Recommends Windows 10 Version 22H2

Microsoft recommends upgrading affected computers to at least Windows 10 version 22H2.

Windows 10 22H2 is the final version of Windows 10. Eligible devices enrolled in the Extended Security Updates program can continue receiving operating system security updates through October 2027.

Upgrading to version 22H2 will also extend OneDrive Sync support beyond the August 2026 cutoff.

OneDrive Support Continues Until October 2028

Microsoft will continue supporting the OneDrive Sync client on Windows 10 version 22H2 until October 10, 2028.

During this period, the client will continue receiving new features, security updates, and fixes. This gives Windows 10 users additional time to move their files and workflows to a supported Windows 11 device.

Users who want to continue using OneDrive Sync after October 10, 2028, will need to upgrade to Windows 11.

Computers that cannot meet the Windows 11 hardware requirements may need to move to newer hardware before the OneDrive deadline arrives.

Older Windows 10 Systems Face Growing Compatibility Risks

Users who remain on Windows 10 version 22H1 or earlier may eventually encounter problems when signing in, synchronizing files, or using newer OneDrive features.

Unsupported systems will also miss fixes for vulnerabilities discovered after August 15. While the client may continue operating for some time, Microsoft will no longer test or maintain it on those Windows releases.

The announcement follows several other Windows 10 support changes. Microsoft recently extended Windows 10 ESU enrollment until October 2027 and released the Windows 10 KB5099539 July 2026 Patch Tuesday update.

Microsoft also confirmed that Samsung Gallery is losing direct OneDrive Sync integration.
