Microsoft has updated the Photos app with dozens of new features that will surely be useful for many Windows 11 and Windows 10 users.

The Photos app now supports Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for over 160 languages. This feature allows users to extract text from images seamlessly, making it easier to search for and repurpose information in photos or screenshots.

Similar to the AI hub in Microsoft Paint, a new Copilot button has been added, offering helpful photo-editing insights and tips. The integration of AI tools extends to features like object erasure and visual search, which are available directly from shortcuts in File Explorer. These tools aim to make photo editing and organization more intuitive and efficient.

In the blog post, Microsoft says the Photos Gallery has been improved with a “Show subfolders” filter, which enhances navigation and allows users to organize their photo collections more effectively.

The update introduces support for JPEG XL (JXL) files, a next-generation image format offering improved compression and image quality.
