Microsoft seems to be considering updating Windows 11 with a new Spotlight experience that lets users find more details about their desktop background image.
The new Spotlight experience can be accessed right from the desktop, thanks to a new icon that Microsoft introduced in the latest Beta build. Spotted by the popular Windows enthusiast @phantomofearth, the new capability is currently hidden in the build, but it can be uncovered by using a special command with ViveTool.
vivetool /enable /id:48656084
Accessing the icon on the Windows 11 desktop will open a Bing landing page, which will tell you more about the desktop background and suggest additional similar images.
But the Redmond-based tech giant doesn’t plan to stop here. The same Windows enthusiast discovered that the Windows 11’s lock screen Spotlight might be updated with new icons, new text, and many visual changes, as seen in the post below.
These, too, can be enabled, as they’re hidden. But if you don’t wait to mess things up, you better wait for them. They’re on the Beta channel, which means they will make it to the Stable channel in the following weeks.
