Microsoft pushes emergency Windows 11 update to fix game crash bug tied to anti-cheat software
Update the system now!
Just a day after rolling out its regular June Patch Tuesday updates, Microsoft released an out-of-band fix for certain Windows 11 users—specifically, gamers running version 24H2. The issue? A compatibility issue between the system and Easy Anti-Cheat, a tool bundled with many popular multiplayer games.
According to Microsoft’s documentation, the problem led to unexpected restarts when launching games that use Easy Anti-Cheat. The software is designed to block cheating in online games, but in this case, it ended up crashing with the June 2025 security update, causing system instability.
Out-of-band update KB5063060 aims to patch things up
To address the issue, Microsoft has released KB5063060 (build 26100.4351). This cumulative update is being targeted specifically at users affected by the Easy Anti-Cheat bug. Those who couldn’t install KB5060842, this month’s standard security update, can now receive the same fixes and protections through today’s patch.
Microsoft says the root of the issue was limited to systems where Easy Anti-Cheat was installed, which is common in games like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and others. If your device was blocked from receiving June’s update, this patch should now enable it.
Easy Anti-Cheat issue still lingers
While this update resolves the unexpected restart issue, Microsoft notes that another open bug remains, affecting PCs with Intel Alder Lake+ and vPro processors. Systems with these chips may still crash when launching affected games. The company recommends updating to the latest version of each game, which usually comes bundled with a newer version of Easy Anti-Cheat.
You can get the update via Windows Update or manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
