Microsoft Releases Emergency OOB Updates to Fix Windows Server Crashes
Fixes LSASS crashes, restart loops, and update errors
Microsoft has released emergency out-of-band (OOB) updates to address critical issues affecting Windows Server systems following the April 2026 Patch Tuesday rollout.
The problems originated from updates KB5082063 and KB5082142, which introduced severe stability and installation issues across supported Windows Server versions. Microsoft acted quickly after reports surfaced from enterprise environments experiencing widespread disruptions.
Domain controller crashes caused widespread disruptions
One of the most serious bugs caused domain controllers to repeatedly restart. The issue triggered LSASS crashes, which are critical to authentication processes in Windows environments.
As a result, affected systems experienced repeated restarts, authentication failures, and major directory services disruptions. In enterprise setups, this led to users being unable to log in, access resources, or maintain stable connections across domains.
Update installation failures blocked deployments
In parallel, some Windows Server 2025 systems failed to install updates altogether. Affected administrators encountered error codes 0x800F0983 and 0x80073712, preventing successful deployment.
These failures left systems partially updated or stuck in unstable states, increasing the risk of further issues and complicating patch management efforts in production environments.
OOB updates restore stability and fix core issues
The newly released OOB updates include quality improvements from KB5082063 and directly target the root causes of these failures. Microsoft confirmed that the patches resolve startup issues, stop the domain controller restart loops, and restore normal authentication behavior.
Additionally, the updates fix installation problems, allowing affected systems to successfully apply updates without errors.
Overall, Microsoft’s rapid response helped contain a critical situation for enterprise users. With these emergency patches, server stability has been restored and core services are functioning normally again.
