KB5044273

Microsoft has released the latest cumulative updates for various supported Windows 10 and Windows Server 20H2 versions as part of the Patch Tuesday cycle.

The updates are now available for the latest supported versions, 20H2, 21H2, and 22H2. They are being distributed under KB5044273, bumping up the builds to 19044.5011 and 19045.5011.

The highlight of today’s release is, as always, security fixes. Here’s the list of addressed vulnerabilities for Windows 10 22H2:

  • This update addresses a vulnerability in how Windows processes JPEG XR images, which could allow an attacker to gain access to sensitive data.
  • This patch addresses a vulnerability in Windows when the Network security: Allow Local System to use computer identity for NTLM security policy is configured, which could allow an attacker to elevate their privileges.
  • This update addresses a vulnerability in Windows that could allow an attacker to bypass the user mode Code Integrity (UMCI) policy on an affected device.

As for the known issues, if you have a dual-boot setup for Windows and Linux, you might face issues booting Linux after installing today’s Windows 10 updates. Microsoft advises people to refer to the workaround mentioned on the Windows release health site for this issue.

Microsoft also released KB5044277 for Windows 10, version 1809, KB5044293 for Windows 10, version 1607 (Long-Term Servicing Channel), and KB5044286 for Windows 10, version 1507 (Long-Term Servicing Channel).

It is noteworthy that Windows 10 20H2 and Windows 10 1909 reached the end of servicing. Non-LTSC editions of 21H2 have also reached the end of servicing.
