KB5085518 emergency update

Microsoft has released a new emergency update to address lingering sign-in problems affecting enterprise users on Windows 11, following issues introduced after the March Patch Tuesday.

Microsoft rolls out KB5085518 to fix enterprise sign-in issues

After the release of KB5079473, many users reported problems signing into Microsoft account-based services. While Microsoft quickly addressed the issue for consumer devices with KB5085516, enterprise environments continued to experience disruptions.

Now, Microsoft has pushed out KB5085518, an out-of-band (OOB) hotpatch update designed specifically for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 enterprise systems.

The issue prevented users from accessing key services tied to Microsoft accounts, including Teams Free and OneDrive, despite having a working Internet connection. This created significant friction for organizations relying on these tools for daily operations.

Hotpatch update installs without a restart

KB5085518 focuses on restoring proper authentication for affected services in enterprise environments, including Windows 11 Enterprise and Enterprise LTSC 2024.

As a hotpatch update, it installs automatically and does not require a system restart, allowing IT admins to deploy the fix with minimal disruption.

Microsoft has not listed any known issues with this update so far. Enterprise users and administrators are advised to ensure the update is applied as soon as possible to restore normal functionality.

This marks yet another emergency response from Microsoft related to the March Patch Tuesday update, highlighting the broader impact of the original sign-in bug across both consumer and enterprise systems.
