Microsoft has released a new Microsoft Defender update package for Windows 11, Windows 10, and Windows Server installation images. This follows a similar update for Lumma last month and helps address outdated Defender components that come bundled with installation media.
When setting up a new system, the anti-malware tools included in the image can be weeks or months out of date, creating a temporary security risk.
Microsoft’s updated Defender package aims to close that gap by delivering the latest definitions and software components directly into install images.
What’s in the update
- Defender package version: 1.431.54.0
- Platform version: 4.18.25050.5
- Engine version: 1.1.25050.2
- Security intelligence version: 1.431.54.0
It applies to the following platforms:
- Windows 11
- Windows 10 (Home, Pro, Enterprise)
- Windows Server 2022
- Windows Server 2019
- Windows Server 2016
According to Microsoft’s documentation, the update enhances detection capabilities for a range of threats, including trojans and backdoor exploits.
While the current version of Microsoft Defender’s intelligence update is 1.431.155.0, this image-specific package is designed for new installs only. Besides patching early vulnerabilities, Microsoft notes that these updates can also improve performance on some systems after setup.
