Microsoft set to launch affordable Windows 365, revolutionizing cloud computing

As reported by WindowsLatest, Microsoft is gearing up to launch the consumer edition of Windows 365, which is anticipated to be more affordable than its enterprise counterpart. As part of the “family” edition of Windows 365, Microsoft intends to offer a bundled package of “multiple Cloud PCs.” This information aligns with what was disclosed during the Microsoft v. FTC hearing. 

The preview builds of Windows 11 already contain features that enable the configuration of a “Cloud PC” within the consumer edition, allowing users to boot directly into Windows 365. Microsoft’s also looking into offering a version of cloud-based Windows 365 for consumers. The release of a new consumer edition of Windows 365 is expected in the near future, possibly during the fall. While the pricing for the consumer edition has not yet been finalized, it is expected to be more economical than the enterprise edition.

It seems that there will be multiple editions of Windows 365 for consumers, potentially including a “family” edition and an individual edition. Although specific pricing details have not been determined, customers can purchase a Cloud PC subscription for multiple family members or individual use at a significantly reduced cost.

It is important to note that these plans are currently internal and subject to change. Therefore, it is advisable to approach this information with some caution.

Windows 365 consumer edition could change computing for good.

The introduction of an affordable version of Windows 365 has the potential to transform our Windows experience. With this version, users, including individuals and families, can access their files and favorite Windows applications from any device that supports Microsoft Edge and other browsers.

Code-named “Deschutes,” Windows 365 operates within Microsoft Azure cloud computers. It is built on top of Azure Virtual Desktop but offers a much simpler setup process.

Currently, Windows 365 is available in two plans: Windows 365 Business and Windows 365 Enterprise. The basic plan, designed for small businesses, frontline workers, or call center employees, includes one vCPU, 2GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage, priced at $20 per user per month.

The consumer edition of Windows 365 is expected to be more cost-effective than the business and enterprise plans. While internal discussions at Microsoft suggested a price range of $10 to $20 for the most affordable consumer edition of Cloud PC, we cannot confirm the exact cost, as internal plans are always subject to change.
