Microsoft Is "Supercharging" Copilot on Windows With Hybrid Intelligence
Microsoft is taking Copilot on Windows a step further by bringing hybrid intelligence to Copilot+ PCs. The update will let Copilot combine local context, local actions and on-device AI models with cloud intelligence to make the assistant more capable while keeping users in control.
Copilot can understand more of your PC
With permission, Copilot will be able to understand relevant content on the PC, including files and recent activity. This local context can help Copilot pull together information users have already been working on and turn it into useful, collaboration-ready content.
The biggest change is that Copilot will also be able to take actions directly on Windows. Microsoft says it can help organize files, assess device diagnostics, troubleshoot problems, write code and complete workflows on the device.
Copilot will also be able to tap into AI models running locally on the PC. That means the assistant can use local compute for suitable tasks while turning to cloud intelligence when more capability is needed.
Hybrid intelligence reaches Home, Code and Autopilot
The new capabilities will work across the three Copilot experiences Microsoft recently introduced: Home, Code and Autopilot. In Home, Copilot can use local context to find relevant files and help turn them into collaboration-ready artifacts. In Code, it can create native Windows apps from a single prompt, use Microsoft Execution Containers for safer code execution and call local models when appropriate.
Autopilot gets perhaps the most interesting upgrade. Microsoft describes it as a persistent and proactive personal agent, and hybrid intelligence will allow it to use local context, local models and PC actions while continuing to work on the user’s behalf.
Microsoft says hybrid intelligence-powered Copilot features are expected to begin rolling out to Copilot+ PCs in the coming months. While Microsoft is slowly phasing out the Copilot+ PCs branding, the company didn’t stop to use the moniker across its latest coverage for October 2026 Surface & Windows event.
