Microsoft Surface Lineup Hit by Memory Crunch, Prices Increase Across the Board

Flagship Surface laptops now start roughly $500 higher than their original launch prices

In the past few months, multiple reports hinted that mainstream PCs will likely get price hikes due to an ongoing memory crunch. Well, the day is here it seems, as Microsoft has quietly increased the prices of its Surface laptops. The news comes via Windows Central, which reports that the new prices are now visible on Microsoft’s official online store.

Microsoft Surface prices jump sharply across lineup

Per the report, the biggest price jump hits flagship devices like the Microsoft Surface Laptop 7 and Microsoft Surface Pro 11. Both premium Surface laptops are now starting roughly $500 higher than their original launch prices. That is not a small bump, especially for devices that were positioned as premium yet competitive options.

The latest price hike has also affected midrange models like the 12-inch Microsoft Surface Pro, which now starts at $1,049, up from $799. Meanwhile, the base 13-inch Microsoft Surface Laptop has been increased to $1,149 from $899. That effectively pushes what used to be mid-tier pricing into flagship territory.

Moving on, the 13.8-inch flagship Surface Laptop, which launched at $999, is now priced at $1,499, while the larger 15-inch variant now starts at whopping $1,599. Here’s a closer look at the Surface laptops affected by the latest price hike:

In a statement to the news outlet, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that the latest price hikes for Surface laptops are the result of “recent increases in memory and component costs, Surface is updating pricing on Microsoft.com for its current‑generation hardware portfolio. We remain committed to delivering value to customers and partners while upholding our standards for quality and innovation.”

That said, it’s unclear whether upcoming Surface laptops will stick to these higher price tiers or push even further. If component costs remain high, Microsoft may have little room to adjust downward in the near term. Not to forget, recently ASUS’ ZenBook laptops saw price hike right after reviews went live. However, the company later clarified that the reflected increases were an error on part of BestBuy.
