Microsoft Teams admins can now manage the deployment of each app individually

Some big changes are coming to Microsoft Teams next month: the platform will be updated to allow a new app management method. According to the latest entry in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, there will be a new policy for admins to control who can have specific Teams apps preinstalled, and who cannot have them.
In other words, admins will be able to manage the deployment of each app individually, by using three new policies:
- Deployed to all users: The app is preinstalled for everyone in the organization.
- Deployed to specific users and groups: The app is preinstalled only for certain users or groups that the admin selects.
- Deployed to no users: The app is not preinstalled for anyone.
This feature replaces the current Installed apps section in the Microsoft Teams Admin Center. Here’s what the entry says:
App centric management for app deployment will introduce a new admin setting to control who in the tenant has specific Teams apps preinstalled. Similar to app assignments, admins will be able to select from three options: ‘Deployed to all users’, ‘Deployed to specific users and groups’, or ‘Deployed to no users’. This feature replaces the existing Installed apps section of app setup policies and provides admins with the ability to manage app deployment individually. The Installed apps section of app setup policies for existing customers will be migrated to maintain existing admin settings in the tenant.

The new method will ensure the Teams environment is aligned, while also providing a safer and more secure infrastructure. After all, managers will be able to easily tell if certain suspicious apps were installed in the environment.
We said big changes are coming to Teams, because it’s true: for instance, alongside the new app management method, Teams will also enhance its Do Not Disturb option to allow mobile users to quietly set it up while screen sharing.
But the platform will also change the way users leave feedback on new features. The new updates to the Teams feedback policies will see the Give Feedback/Suggest a Feature app within the platform not using Teams policies anymore. Instead, they will regulated through the Cloud policy service in Microsoft 365.
