By March 2024, the new Microsoft Teams, dubbed as Teams 2.0 will be fully released on every platform, as this version becomes the new default client for the app. Possibly, in a bid to encourage users to migrate to the new version, Microsoft is releasing a plethora of new features.

According to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, Teams is set to debut 2 new features that will greatly focus on how users interact with each other on the platform. Both of them will be released starting next month.

The first of them called Live Meeting Status will allow users to get all the information and details of a meeting when they’re using Teams for Mobile.

These details include the participants’ avatars, the duration of the meeting, and whether the meeting is recorded or not.

Teams calendar on mobile devices displays the live status of a meeting with avatars of the participants who are in the call, whether the meeting is being recorded and the duration of the meeting.

The second of them, however, is the one that truly allows users to work efficiently on Teams. The platform will debut a Discover feed on channels feature, that essentially displays a personalized feed based on important updates in the channels users are part of.

Teams 2.0: Do you need to upgrade?

Microsoft says these features are coming to Microsoft Teams, but the tech giant doesn’t specify which version, so it’s safe to assume they’re coming to all versions, both classic Teams and the new Teams.

However, given that the new Teams are also UI improvements that work better with these new features, users should consider migrating to it as soon as possible. According to the Redmond-based tech giant, this version also runs faster, so users won’t be bothered by laggy processes.

Another point to consider is the security of the platform. Organizations, such as companies, universities, or schools should migrate to the new version as soon as possible. We all know just how vulnerable Microsoft services and platforms are. Take 2022, for example over 80% of the Microsoft 365 accounts were hacked back then.

Needless to say, Microsoft will invest fewer resources into keeping classic Teams alive, instead focusing on the new Teams. Features such as integration with other Microsoft 365 apps, and Copilot are already on Teams, and they could easily save up a lot of time for users. teams personalized feed channels

In the end, you’ll have until March 2024 to migrate to Teams, but better do it now. You’ll get used to the platform until then.
