In 2025, Microsoft Teams will be enhanced with an important capability: the ability to open file links from any 365 apps, pretty much anywhere you wish, whether a browser, desktop app or Teams itself.

In other words, Teams will support the open file links preference and extend it across all of the Microsoft 365 apps, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

The Redmond-based tech giant wants to create a consistent open file experience across all platforms. However, the feature is still optional, and users can choose their Teams file open preference separately.

Here’s the entry:

When it comes to how links to cloud-hosted Word, Excel, or PowerPoint files should open, you may prefer they open in a browser, desktop apps, or directly in Teams. Now, your Teams file open preference will extend to across Microsoft 365 apps, creating a consistent ‘open file’ experience. If you prefer, you will still be able to choose your Teams file open preference separately.

The new enhancement will be released on Teams in February 2025. At the same time, the Redmond-based tech giant promises to enhance spell-checking on the platform. It should work the same way now, but with far better suggestions.
