Microsoft Teams won't be available on older Windows 10/Windows 11 versions anymore

Microsoft Teams, a popular tool for workplace communication, has just announced its system requirements for the new client version. The new Teams client is available on PCs, Macs, and mobile devices and can be accessed via a web browser.

The new Teams client brings many improvements, thanks to its up to two times faster app performance while using 50% less memory. The system requirements for the new Teams client are the same as those for the classic Teams version.

However, the new Microsoft Teams won’t be available for the older Windows 10/Windows 11 versions. Windows 10 21H2 and older versions, the new Microsoft Teams deprecation will happen on January 15, 2025. It will happen on Windows 10 and 11 LTSC on August 15, 2025.

If you want to use the new Microsoft Teams on Windows or macOS devices, the system requirements have changed slightly.

According to Microsoft, Windows PC desktops require a minimum processor speed of 1.1 GHz or faster (minus Intel Turbo Boost Technology speed), 4 GB RAM, and 3 GB of available disk space. The display should have a resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher.

The macOS desktop version requires a dual-core processor, 4 GB RAM, and 1.5 GB of available disk space. The display should have a resolution of 1200 x 800 or higher. The macOS version should be one of the three most recent operating system versions.

The Teams web version shares the exact hardware requirements as the underlying operating systems. It’s supported on Microsoft Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and Safari browsers.

Teams are also available for Linux users as a progressive web app, and the web version supports the exact hardware requirements as the underlying operating system.

The Teams mobile app is available on Android and iOS devices. On Android, Teams is compatible with the last four major OS versions. On iOS, it’s compatible with the two most recent major iOS versions.

Teams can run with minimal hardware requirements. However, for specialized user scenarios like Avatar, Teams Live Events, and large meetings, Microsoft recommends a system with 8 GB RAM or higher and a four-core processor from 2018 or later.

In other news, Microsoft will release a new policy for admins that, once enabled, will allow Teams to update while the device is in idle mode.
