A few weeks ago, Microsoft teased Clippy, the popular Windows assistant, in a series of social media posts on X (formerly known as Twitter). While we don’t know if the Redmond-based tech giant is officially considering bringing it back, the posts were enough to create nostalgia for old Windows assistants.
Long before the era of Copilot (and even Cortana, for that matter), there were Clippy, Rover, Rocky, Mother Earth, F1, Earl, The Dot, and many more characters designed to provide an engaging and fun experience when navigating Windows.
Now, it seems that more and more Windows users want these characters back. On Reddit, users wish for Microsoft to bring these characters back. How? By replacing the search with them.
While the post is mainly a joke, some Windows users genuinely want these characters back, with one user, in particular, expressing interest in modern versions.
I’d honestly love to see modern versions of these mf’s. 3D rendered (or of course 2D if it’s a more cartoonish character), intelligent perching on windows, conversational with recent tech, actual usefulness etc.
Microsoft might bring some of them back in a way or form. The Redmond-based tech giant teased Clippy with some dedicated social media posts, prompting many to think these assistants are returning.
With the rise of Copilot and the many AI features in Windows 11, Microsoft might bring them back. Not to mention that the Redmond-based tech giant is soon turning 50, and this might be the perfect opportunity to unveil the new modernized characters that are still beloved by many.
Would you like to have them back in Windows 11?
