Microsoft Tests Copilot Personality Selector to Let Users Choose AI Response Styles
Microsoft has been working nonstop on Copilot, recently rolling out the Real Talk feature to make conversations feel more natural. Now, the company is quietly testing another personalization upgrade that could change how users interact with its AI assistant.
Copilot finally gets a personality selector
As Testing Catalog reports, Microsoft has started rolling out a new personality selector inside Copilot. The feature allows users to choose between different response styles, giving them more control over how Copilot communicates.

The selector appears as part of a broader experiment called Personality Studio, which shows up directly in the Copilot chat interface. At launch, the options remain limited, and most users can only access the default or concise response style.
Microsoft is taking a cautious, phased approach with this rollout. The company plans to expand the available personalities over time as it gathers feedback and refines the experience.
The personality selector sits alongside new memory management controls, which Microsoft has integrated into the same preferences area. These tools let users manage how Copilot remembers context, preferences, and session-related details, reinforcing Microsoft’s push toward deeper personalization.

Work also continues on other Copilot enhancements. Current tests hint at a dedicated reminders category and possible video generation support in future updates, although Microsoft has not confirmed timelines.
Many users see this feature as long overdue, since response tone plays a major role in how helpful an AI assistant feels. At the same time, Microsoft continues to experiment beyond Copilot.
The company recently acknowledged that it has started adopting Claude Code alongside Copilot during development, signaling a multi-tool AI strategy rather than reliance on a single assistant.
Elsewhere in the AI space, ChatGPT has also introduced improvements. Its Temporary mode can now use personalization settings and memories, showing that major AI platforms are racing toward more customized user experiences.
