ChatGPT Temporary Mode Upgrade Brings Memory and Style Preferences

OpenAI continues to test new features across its products, including ChatGPT, while also working on new task and workflow tools and its first dedicated AI device. Alongside these efforts, the company is now experimenting with notable changes to how Temporary chats work in ChatGPT.

ChatGPT’s temporary chat will get access to personalization settings

As reported by BleepingComputer, OpenAI is testing a major upgrade to the Temporary chat feature in ChatGPT.

Until now, Temporary chats always started with a completely clean slate. They did not reference previous conversations, saved memories, or personalization settings. These chats never appeared in chat history and were not used for model training.

With the new update, Temporary chats can now access a user’s personalization settings. This includes things like preferred writing style, tone, and saved memory context.

The conversation itself still remains temporary and does not show up in chat history. However, ChatGPT can now respond in a way that better matches how users normally interact with the assistant.

Users who prefer the old behavior will still have control. OpenAI allows personalization in Temporary chats to be turned on or off, depending on user preference.

For safety and abuse prevention, OpenAI notes that it may retain a copy of Temporary chats for up to 30 days, even though they remain excluded from training.

This update is not the only recent change. OpenAI has also introduced an age prediction system in ChatGPT, designed to better protect underage users.

Despite the steady rollout of new features and experiments, concerns remain around OpenAI’s finances. Some analysts estimate that the company could lose as much as $14 billion this year, driven by high infrastructure costs and rapid expansion.

Even so, OpenAI continues to push forward with feature upgrades, safety improvements, and new product categories, signaling that innovation remains its top priority.
