Microsoft Tests Pop-Up Postgame Recaps in Xbox App on Windows
Microsoft has recently faced criticism over higher Xbox Gift Card redemption costs. Now, the company is shifting focus back to player engagement with a new feature aimed at PC gamers.
According to Neowin, Microsoft is rolling out a Postgame Recaps feature to Xbox PC Gaming Preview users on Windows.
What Postgame Recaps do in the Xbox App
The new feature delivers a visual and interactive summary after a gameplay session ends.
Postgame Recaps can include screenshots, captured videos, unlocked achievements, total playtime, and key in-game moments. The recap appears as a pop-up inside the Xbox PC app once a session concludes.
Microsoft notes that the pop-up will not trigger after every single game. It will most likely appear when players unlock achievements, capture clips, or launch a title for the first time.
In some cases, first-time sessions may also include personalized game recommendations based on recent activity.
System tray integration and performance impact
To support the feature, the Xbox app will run in the system tray. This allows it to monitor gameplay sessions and generate summaries in real time.
Microsoft claims it has optimized the app to minimize memory usage and performance impact. The company emphasizes that background operations should not affect gaming performance.
Players who prefer a cleaner setup can fully disable Postgame Recaps. Turning off the feature also stops the Xbox app from auto-starting in the system tray.
Users can find the toggle under Settings > App > Postgame recaps.
Built-in feedback system
Microsoft also allows players to submit feedback directly from the recap interface.
Users can report what they found helpful, what felt unnecessary, and what features they would like to see added. This suggests the company plans to refine the tool before a broader rollout beyond preview users.
The move signals Microsoft’s continued effort to make the Xbox PC ecosystem more social and performance-focused, especially as competition intensifies across Windows gaming platforms.
In related Xbox developments, reports indicate that Xbox Ally X prices have increased in Japan due to rising memory costs. Meanwhile, industry speculation points to a potential 2027 launch window for Microsoft’s next-generation Xbox console.
