Microsoft Updates Visual Studio Code With Fresh Themes And AI
Microsoft just dropped version 1.113 of Visual Studio Code. The company has moved to a quick weekly release schedule, and it is packing new features into every single update. This week, the focus is on a fresh coat of paint and giving you more control over how its built-in artificial intelligence works. If you code regularly, you will find some handy tweaks here that make the editor look better and think smarter.
The update brings new default themes for a modern look
If you like visual updates, version 1.113 brings new default themes called VS Code Light and VS Code Dark. Microsoft designed these to look a bit more modern while keeping the familiar layout you are used to. New users will also see these themes sync automatically with their operating system settings.
So, if your computer is set to dark mode, the editor will match it right out of the gate. The biggest functional change involves how you interact with the AI assistant. You can now adjust how hard the model thinks before giving you an answer
By clicking the arrows next to the model name, you can set the thinking effort to low, medium, or high. Just keep in mind that asking the tool to do more heavy reasoning will burn through your usage limits faster.
It offers smarter workflows with nested subagents
Another helpful addition is the ability for subagents to call on other subagents. Before this update, that feature was locked to stop infinite loops. Now, you can turn on a specific setting to allow these nested connections. This makes it easier to set up complex, multistep workflows directly in the editor.
To grab the update, open the help menu in your installed software and check for the newest version.
