Microsoft is introducing a new administrative role called the AI Administrator as part of its Entra platform.
A recent entry to the Microsoft 365 Roadmap states that this role is specifically designed to handle tasks related to the Microsoft Copilot Dashboard.
By assigning this role to admin users, they can manage the Copilot Dashboard effectively without needing the broader (and sometimes unnecessary) access that comes with Global Admin permissions.
Here’s what the entry says:
Expanding the Microsoft Copilot Dashboard admin settings to AI Administrator role which is the newly announced Entra role. Admin users assigned with the AI Administrator role can efficiently manage Microsoft Copilot Dashboard without the vast privileges of Global admin permissions.
In short, it’s a way to give administrators the tools to manage AI-related settings without granting them excessive privileges that could pose security risks.
The new enhancement is also in sync with Microsoft’s new AI Admin role that is being released to the Teams Admin Center.
