Microsoft will support Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro until 2026

Microsoft has recently released the support dates for Windows 11 Home and Pro, the company’s latest incarnation of the Windows operating system.

Windows 11 Home and Pro will be supported according to Microsoft’s Modern Lifecycle Policy. This policy applies to the following editions: Home, Pro, Pro Education, Pro for Workstations, and SE. It offers at least five years of mainstream support and five years of extended support.

The lifecycle support for Windows 11 Home and Pro began on October 4, 2021, and will be available in several releases. The first version, 21H2, is no longer supported, and the next one, 22H2, has been removed from support this week.

According to Microsoft’s Windows as a Service (WaaS) Lifecycle FAQ page, Windows 11 Home and Pro will be supported until October 13, 2026, with the latest version, 24H2, which was released widely on October 1, and received its first wave of Patch Tuesday updates.

As part of the lifecycle policy, Windows 11 24H2 will receive security updates, bug fixes, new features, and support for new hardware.

It’s important to note that Windows 11 Pro offers additional capabilities, such as running virtual machines, added security features, and more control over Windows updates.

Windows 11 Home is the standard edition of the OS, offering features like the redesigned Start menu, new Snap layouts, and virtual desktops.

As Microsoft continues to work on the OS, it is expected to receive more updates and new features beyond the 24H2 version. The company is also developing a new Windows 11 SE edition for education and first-line worker devices.
