We know how the title sounds: Windows 11 just released its latest major update, and we’re talking about a 64-bit Windows 12 ISO being out. Well, theoretically, it might be true. Practically, however, it’s not.

We’ve stumbled on a Twitter post (now X, but it will take some time to get used to it), where a Twitter user posted an image that showcases how VMware, a virtual machine software workstation that allows for multiple operating systems on the same device, showing the ability to select a 64-bit Windows 12.

The Twitter post is recent, as it was posted on September 29, but a quick search on the Internet reveals that VMware has been displaying the 64-bit Microsoft Windows 12 option on its software for quite a while, according to this Reddit post.

The Reddit post was made 7 months ago, back in February, and it made VMware users back then wonder if this was an unintentional leak since VMware might have access to confidential information from Microsoft.

Unintended leak? As VMWare (and other hypervisors) probably have some internal connection with Microsoft… Well, we didn’t know yet, but it’s likely to happen.

The 64-bit Microsoft Windows 12 ISO is not real, for now

However, despite the collective excitement about it, it’s clear that VMware might probably experience an error when displays the actual Windows versions available to install.

Windows 12 is not out anywhere, and so far we have some speculations about it, but Microsoft hasn’t said anything yet. There are a lot of speculations about Windows 12, and while some of them might not be true, one thing in particular stands out: Windows 12 will be an AI-centered operating system.microsoft windows 12 iso

And no, we’re not the ones saying that. In fact, Microsoft is showing it with every new product on the market. From Windows Copilot to Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and even Microsoft Paint, they all have or will get AI features soon.

Take for example Microsoft Paint, which now has Cocreator, a powerful DALL-E-based AI tool, which will generate artwork for you in seconds.

The new Windows, while supposedly called Windows 12 (however, we don’t even know for sure, because at this point it’s just natural speculation), will feature a lot of AI. In what capacity? We will have to wait and see.

Either way, VMware casually displaying a 64-bit Microsoft Windows 12 ISO might be a good way to start to place together all the pieces of the puzzle.

Windows 12 is definitely coming, sooner or later.
