Minecraft Baby Mobs Get Major Makeover in the Latest Update
Minecraft has rolled out one of its cutest updates so far, and it’s all about the babies. In the latest Java snapshot and Bedrock beta, Mojang has introduced eight newly redesigned baby farm mobs, giving long-standing creatures a fresh identity instead of simply shrinking down adult models.
“Until now, the baby mobs have been scaled-down versions of the adult mobs, but with big heads, but now our artists have given them unique textures and models that give each baby mob their own adorable look and identity!” said game director Agnes Larsson.
Minecraft’s latest update gives a visual refresh to Baby Mobs
The update applies to nearly every farm companion. Wolf pups, kittens, piglets, calves, lambs, baby chickens, rabbits, and baby ocelots now look chunkier, softer, and far more expressive. More importantly, the update brings one major change. Baby mobs now have one-pixel eyes instead of two, giving them an instantly cuter vibe. As Larsson puts it, “Typically, mobs in Minecraft have two-pixel eyes, but now baby mobs have just one, which creates a new vibe for them, which is just adorable.”
Well, every mob brings its own personality after the update. Wolf pups span all nine variants, kittens cover eleven styles, and baby chickens hatch in three climate-specific designs. Rabbits, both adult and baby, received a visual refresh too, including the beloved “toast” variant. Piglets, lambs, and calves now reflect their native biomes, adding more visual storytelling to the world.
Notably, Piglets, wolf pups, and kittens now have custom baby sounds, recorded from real animals. “Instead of the up-pitched versions of the adult sounds, I wanted to capture the uniqueness of a kitten meow and a puppy yapping,” said audio designer Sandra Karlsson.
Last but not least, the name tags can be personalized using paper and any metal nugget, which makes it far easier to label your growing mob family. These features are live in testing now, with Mojang actively asking players for feedback before final release.
