New Data Shows COD: Black Ops 7’s Sales Are Miserable, and Player Count Also Struggles

The company has admitted that the game isn't good enough

With the COD: Black Ops 7, Activision expected good sales, but a recent report suggests otherwise. New data pulled from Alinea Analytics and Video Game Insights by folks at GamesIndustry.biz (via Pure Xbox) shows that Black Ops 7 sales aren’t close to Black Ops 6 on Steam. This comes as Xbox announced that the COD franchise topped Xbox Game Pass for November & the entire 2025.

In the report, Aliena Analytics mentions that “Black Ops 7 sold 401,000 copies on Steam 26 days after launch, compared to Black Ops 6 selling 2.3 million units during the same period last year.” It is one of the reasons why Activision is preparing a major push to revive interest in Call of Duty Black Ops 7 after the game’s rocky launch and weaker-than-expected sales.

The studio recently announced that a free trial will land next week, giving players a chance to jump into both multiplayer and zombie modes. What’s worse for Activision is that the latest data doesn’t just point to underperformance against other COD game titles; it is also reportedly seeing a concurrent Steam player count that’s “80% lower” than COD: Modern Warfare II. For those unaware, that’s the COD game from three years back.

The console side engagement isn’t good either for Black Ops 7, as the data suggests that the game saw player numbers at roughly half of Black Ops 6’s in the month after release. All that said, these data didn’t come from Activision or Xbox, but it’s in line with Activision’s statement about Black Ops 7 not being an audience-puller.
